What's in a blessing?

At the end of school assemblies, I usually give the children (and the staff) a blessing. One day some years ago I asked the children what they thought a blessing was. One girl said 'It's Jesus sending us his love' - so apt and so well put. And so today, the Feast of the Epiphany, when we remember the Wise Men coming to give their gifts to Jesus, we remember that he - always - sends us his love. Even when our love for him is not up to the standard of the Wise Men's gold, frankincense and myrrh.
